Welcome back to day 2 of our 12 Days of Infusions series!
Today we've got an exotic infusion recipe and accompanying cocktail, the Gandhi Gimlet, courtesy of our friend Micah LeMon.
Micah expertly heads up the cocktail program at The Alley Light, a fantastic modern day speakeasy located in Charlottesville, VA's historic downtown mall. Without further ado, let's dive into the recipes:
Turmeric Infused Moonshine Recipe
What you'll need - 500ml Belle Isle Premium Moonshine - 200g (about 1/2 lb) of fresh turmeric, cleaned & finely chopped
Here's how to make it Combine the ingredients in an iSi nitrous whipper, and double charge the canister. Allow to infuse for 3 minutes, and vent slowly. Allow the liquid to rest for 5 minutes, then strain out the turmeric. Finally, coffee filter the infused spirit.
The Gandhi Gimlet Recipe
What you'll need - 2oz Turmeric Infused Moonshine - 1oz lime cordial (see below) - barspoon Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
Here's how to make it First prepare the lime cordial by combining 2 parts lime juice with 1 part sugar, 1 part water, lime zest, and a pinch of citric and smaller pinch of tartaric acid. Stir to combine, then strain out the zest. Next, combine all cocktail ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and double strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass. Garnish with a lime twist.
A riff on Dave Arnold's Glo Sour, the Gandhi Gimlet is a citrus and spice cocktail that peacefully combines moonshine, lime, and the floral notes of turmeric and maraschino.
